suffice it to say,
i had no idea that by the end of the night
i would be the first real man
on the moon.
and when the sun came up the next day,
it was the first time.
and so it seemed quite different
for that night, i realized that none of the things that had happened
had really happened
and so, they could never happen "again".
and then walking to find a world that was innocent with a little personified grin
undisturbed and seemingly completely unbeholden to the events of the night before...
then a voice
gentle and confident and loving...
"... this.. world.. has.. NO.. secrets...
... only....
...inexhaustible truth..."
it tells
and it does nothing else
and love is all it ever says
and it loves us
her impudent children
having but little responsibility for the belief...
...that in death lies a reason to burn for knowledge
long after i'm gone
and the tracing of my footprints are obliterated
